How the calculator works

How is the full-time cost calculated?

It starts from the base salary range for a CMO in the market and company stage you select, drawn from our European salary grid, then adds employer charges at the rate you set. It does not include bonus, equity or recruitment fees, so the real full-time cost is higher and the saving shown is conservative.

How is the fractional cost calculated?

The day rate for the market you select, multiplied by the number of days per week and the number of working weeks per year you set. The default is 46 working weeks, which is 52 minus holidays and downtime.

Does a fractional CSO cost the same?

The fractional day rate is the same band for a CMO, a CSO or a CRO: it follows seniority and scope, not the function. The full-time salary figures in this calculator are for a CMO specifically.

Where do the numbers come from?

The salary bands and day rates come from public salary guides, salary databases and market sources for 2025-2026. The only figures we add are the two assumptions you can edit, employer charges and working weeks per year.
